| Sometimes the quest for home surround sound is as ignominious as seeking the holy grail. Where do you place all those speakers? Do you have to reshape the room? Philips engineers have tackled that problem. They've managed to take the output from 5 distinct channel amplifiers and placed them in a single speaker called a Soundbar. Within the soundbar, speakers are angled to provide a realistic audio environment that literally emulates sound as if it's coming from all sides. It's 5.1 surround without the mess! In addition to the latest audio technology, the Ambisound system is only five inches thick and can be easily mounted onto a wall underneath an existing Flat-TV. The simple, yet elegant design enhances the décor of any home theater space, regardless of the room layout or design. The center console is designed to be mounted on a wall or resting on a stand. For maximum audio quality and clarity, the Ambisound system features a 3-band equalizer and DoubleBASS deep bass performance, creating a smooth cross over between sounds. The speakers feature soft dome tweeters for increased clarity and clear voice performance and are designed for maximum efficiency for full midrange performance. Additionally, users will enjoy the Smart Surround feature, which automatically ensures correct surround sound settings whether a movie or music is playing. Though not exactly 5.1 channel sound, The HTS8100 uses a host of technologies including array processing, precise driver positioning and psycho-acoustic innovation to achieve the full surround sound performance that is 5.1 channel compatible. I Bought 2 of these - nice when they work!

| Ok, I have 2 of these. When they are working, they are really great. However, when I first purchased them - one of them went out within 1 month. Luckily I could still return it to the store where I bought it. Now, 4 months later, the other one has some problem where the sound comes and goes. I called Philips and once I sent them the proof of purchase, where they said they would call me back within 2 business days, they never called back. I called them the next day, and they said that they would have to send me to customer support to get it replaced. Customer support was in Canada and said they couldn't find out the amount in the inventory until the next day, but they would call me back. Never called back, so 2 days later I call them again. Then I am told that they have nothing to replace it with - even though it's the current model and people are selling them all over. They now said they would give me back my purchase price, however I had a big discount on it when I purchased it. Therefore, now when they finally give me a refund, I will have to put another $100 with it to buy a new one. Talk about bad craftsmanship and bad customer service, I regret buying anything from Philips. Buyer Beware! |

| I bought this sound bar because I didn't want to deal with a multi-speaker home theater system. I also didn't have a DVD player, so this product really fit the bill. I love it! Great quality sound, nice look. |

| This system does NOT play the sound from my TV. In the instructions it clearly states in step 3 of the setup guide "Cables not included" |

| After placing order I received the sound bar in about 2 weeks, The first one they gave me a tracking number got "lost," I think it never shipper. I called them and asked them to look into it and they then sent another one the next day. After receiving it in about 1 week I found that after it was set up the DVD player did not work. I called next day and requested that they only send a replacement sound bar. after waiting 2 days for approval to send only the sound bar I received it in about 4 days. The new one worked perfect and I send the defective one back in the package they sent the replacement. After all said and done I did have to go through a lot but Jen at Outlet was a great help the entire time. I always spoke to a person when I called and my e-mails were answered within a day. It was a pain to get the working product but the process was nearly painless with the open communication and quick response. Great company, I will definitely but from them in the future. |

I bought this system so that I could have a quality speaker system that:
1)Replaced my existing TV's sound with richer sound
2)Allowed me to play CD's and MP3's without having to have the TV screen on (as opposed to the old DVD player)
3)Gave me a 1-stop shop hookup (one device, no tuner necessary, only have my TV remote and the system remote) for my technically challenged self :)
I got all three in this system. I like that this device is a DVD/CD player, speakers, radio, MP3 Player all in one. I also love that I can hook this up using the HD connectors rather than the traditional video/audio cables. It makes for a clean look in the front and minimal wires in the back. One important thing to note is that if you place this device in front of your TV, elevate the TV so you're not blocking your remote control reception point. I've got this sitting in front of my plasma and have elevated the plasma using tiles (super cheap solution - $3).
If you're an advanced sound person and really want true surround sound, this isn't for you. However, it's great in my apartment where I'm sitting 11' away from the screen and would like the sound to have more impact than the stock TV speakers.
For the price, it's an amazing value - I say go for it! |
